Laminating Services, Inc., began in October of 1992 as an  idea to create laminated maps that fold easily. It's creator, David J. White, a Naval Academy Graduate had developed a love for maps and charts, and having been  a Navy SEAL (or Frogman) developed a love for laminated maps. Dave decided to start a company that would laminate maps that could fold easily and flat. He named his Santa Barbara, California startup  " Canterbury Company" and five months later, with the help of an attorney, filed a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on a idea which would allow laminated articles to fold flat.

Canterbury Company had already published its first laminated, foldable map, the "Santa Barbara Frog Map", which outsold all other  Santa Barbara maps in its first year. In March of 1994 Canterbury Company published its second "Frog Map" of the state of California, and in November of  that year published a Florida and a United States. Sales for 1994 reached  $88,000.00 with just four titles (only one of which had been on the market for the full year.)

In January of 1995 Canterbury Company incorporated as "Frog Map, Inc" and was awarded a deal to manufacture a line of laminated, foldable maps for the second largest mapping group in America; the Langenscheidt Publishing Group which owns six mapping companies along the East Coast. In addition, Frog  Map, Ltd. signed a contract to produce 50 state maps with ComGraphix in  Clearwater, Florida. It became obvious that a move to the East Coast would be best.

On the 19th of January, Frog Map, Ltd. closed its doors  in California and reopened in Clearwater, Florida within the same building as  ComGaphix. It spent the rest of 1995 making Frog Maps and laminating Langenscheidt's growing line of "City Slicker" laminated foldable maps. By the end of 1995 revenue grew over 500%. Several other large mapping companies began sending Frog Map Inc. maps to laminate, and it hired its first  employees.

In February of 1996, Frog Map Inc. grew out of its 300 square foot space in the ComGraphix building and moved down the road to a 2,500 square foot location in Largo, Florida. In April, Frog Map Inc. was awarded a contract to laminate 1.2 million maps for State Farm. It became  necessary to purchase over $120,000 worth of automated equipment in order to boost production from 5,000 maps per day to 30,000.

In October of 1996 Frog Map Inc, spun off its' laminating  business into what is now Laminating Services, Inc. By the end of the year, over 2 million maps had been laminated and the combined companies experienced over a 300% growth in revenue. Eventually, Frog Map Inc., was sold so that Dave could concentrate on LSI's new niche--laminated, foldable maps and reference guides. LSI is now in its' own 8,000 square foot building with many machines and a crew of experienced, hard working employees (plus a couple of great dogs), eager to go to work for you!
